On a typical hot, cloudless Southern California day, I decided to escape the city with my work husband, photographer Josh Williams, and my friend Ken Raif. We hopped in his car and headed to Vasquez Rocks, a vast 932-acre park located just an hour from LA where Star Trek and other sci-fi films are shot. The plan was to shoot pieces from my new fall collection, and the concept was to take something organic and paint it an “unorganic” color!
We spent a bit of time scouting around, which was challenging in the 90 degree heat! Josh discovered a pile of abandoned sticks which created a lovely, raw texture in contrast to my pieces set amongst the natural environment. By late afternoon, we started to notice the sky was beginning to change color dramatically! A wildfire had erupted in Santa Clarita, causing layers of smoke to rise and slowly glaze over the piercing summer sunshine, transforming the sky into an incredibly thick blanket of rich, golden tones.
The atmosphere felt royal, yet wild, powerful and untamed — the perfect setting for the new collection inspired by the wise, courageous ancient goddesses of the past. May each of these pieces serve as a “totem” as you wear it, reminding you of how truly unique you are. For those of you choosing to wear these pieces, I hope you’re reminded of the this truth: that there is only one you, and therein lies your strength and your personal power!
